Russell Wilson named Giants’ starting QB
After another forgettable season during the 2024-25 campaign, the New York Giants knew it was time to move on from Daniel Jones and upgrade the quarterback position.
Fortunately for New York, it appears the storied franchise was able to do that, with the team bringing in veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston along with drafting Jaxson Dart.

However, there has been some speculation about which of these quarterbacks would be the Week 1 starter for the Giants. It appears head coach Brian Daboll wants to end any quarterback controversy heading into training camp, with Wilson getting the nod, via Jordan Raanan of ESPN.
The New York Giants don’t have any quarterback controversy this summer. Russell Wilson is the clear-cut starting quarterback at they begin training camp, coach Brian Daboll said Wednesday.
“These guys will be out here competing, but Russ is our starter,” Daboll said of the veteran quarterback.
Wilson discussed his opportunity for a fresh start in New York and his current mindset at this point in his career with his fourth team.
“I’m always just focused on being the best version of me every day,” Wilson said. “For me, my mentality is always to be the best in the world. I don’t know anything else other than that. Just having that mentality and helping our football team win, I think that’s the big thing that I’m really highly focused on is elevating our practice, elevating our play, elevating our mentality and having a championship mentality daily.
“And I think that we’re on that path, but we got to keep doing it daily, and it starts with me and my mindset and my energy and the way that I step into the huddle every day. And that’s what’s important.”
Considering the Giants’ recent history, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that a change at the quarterback position could happen quickly during the season if things don’t go as planned with Wilson, as Winston is capable and Dart might impress along the way.
