NBA trade rumors are starting to heat up with the New York Knicks looking to shake things up. The NBA trade deadline is only a few weeks away with the buzzer sounding on deals that can be made on Feb. 18. Although the Knicks are gradually starting to turn things around, the storied NBA franchise is looking at acquiring an upgrade at the point guard position.

According to Ian Begley of ESPN, the Knicks are targeting veteran guard Jeff Teague of the Atlanta Hawks:

The New York Knicks have spoken with the Atlanta Hawks about a potential trade for point guard Jeff Teague, league sources tell ESPN.com.

Apparently, the Knicks haven’t been the only team around the NBA to show interest in the 27-year-old floor general. Teague has received considerable interest and may be on the move before the deadline to New York or elsewhere via Begley:

The Knicks are one of several teams to express interest in the 27-year-old Teague. Yahoo! Sports reported Wednesday that Atlanta has been discussing potential Teague trades with multiple teams.

Teague was one of the pivotal players on the Hawks roster last season that led Atlanta into the NBA playoffs as the number one seed in the Eastern Conference. The talented point guard’s numbers have dipped a bit since last season, but he’s still considered one of the better players in the league at his position.

New York has played much better in comparison to last season’s performance, but the struggling franchise is hoping to make a playoff push this year. The emergence of rookie forward Kristaps Porzingis has helped propel the Knicks in the postseason conversation and adding Teague would only help this team on the rise in the East.

In 43 games this season, Teague is averaging 14.3 points, 5.6 assists, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game. Although not the All-Star-caliber player he was last season, Teague would be a sizable upgrade over veteran Jose Calderon at the point guard position in New York.
