NBA News: Grizzlies’ Marc Gasol Out For The Rest Of The Season

It has been a rough season, to say the least for the Memphis Grizzlies. As if coming to grips with the fact their style of play can’t compete with today’s small ball in the NBA, the Grizzlies have lost their recently re-signed face of the franchise for the rest of the 2015-16 campaign.

According to ESPN, two-time All-Star Marc Gasol has undergone season-ending surgery on his injured right foot:

Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol will miss the remainder of the season after having surgery to repair a fracture in his right foot, the team announced Tuesday.

Gasol went down with the right foot injury earlier this month leading many to believe he could potentially miss the rest of the season. Gasol was said to be distraught about the injury as he feared it would end his season and jeopardize playing for the Spanish national team in the 2016 Olympics this summer in Rio de Janerio, Brazil.

Despite the loss of Gasol, the Grizzlies are still in the playoff hunt in the Western Conference. Memphis has won seven out of their last 10 games and are currently the fifth seed in the West behind the Los Angeles Clippers and ahead of the Dallas Mavericks.

Obviously, losing Gasol is costly for Memphis with the playoffs right around the corner. The former NBA Defensive Player of the Year continued to put up solid numbers this season with 16.6 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game and will be missed as the team tries to compete against the best the West has to offer.

At this point, the Grizzlies have 75/1 odds (via Sportsbook.ag) to come out of the West. The Houston Rockets (45/1), Oklahoma City Thunder (13/2), San Antonio Spurs (13/5), Golden State Warriors (5/11), and Clippers (12/1) all have considerably better odds to be NBA Finals bound.
