Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell not sweating his contract status
Le’Veon Bell has yet to sign his $12.1 million exclusive franchise tender, and we haven’t heard much of late about a long-term contract. Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert has stated this year that the team wanted to work on a deal after the draft, but so far, it’s been nothing but crickets.
Now, that doesn’t mean nothing is happening behind the scenes. The Steelers might be in contact with Bell’s agent on a daily basis, trying to work out a deal. Or perhaps there really isn’t much going on at all.
Either way, Bell isn’t stressing about it.
“I’m good with everything, just taking it day to day for real,†Bell said, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
As he waits to see what will happen next, Bell is working out in Los Angeles, rehabbing the groin injury he suffered last year. A video surfaced of Bell playing basketball recently, and it sure didn’t look like the groin was an issue.
Bell and the Steelers have until July 17 to hammer out a contract. If no deal is struck by that deadline, then Bell would either have to sign the franchise tender or hold out for a year.
As the $12.1 million on the tender is fully guaranteed, we don’t foresee the latter as a realistic possibility.
