Trae Young Named Best Rookie Playmaker and Shooter

The results of the annual NBA rookie survey are out, and Trae Young has come out of it looking good.

The Atlanta Hawks point guard has been voted the best shooter and the best playmaker by his rookie class peers.

The former OU star got 47% for best shooter and 35% for best playmaker. However, his peers do not believe Trae Young will have the best season or even the best career. Trae Young only received 6% of the votes for which player will win Rookie of the Year.

That 6% was tied for fifth most. Tied for first are Cleveland’s Collin Sexton and Phoenix’s DeAndre Ayton with 18% of the vote.

Chicago Bulls rookie Wendell Carter Jr is expected to have the best career of this year’s rookie class. He led that category with 13% of the vote.

The Philadelphia 76er’s Zhaire Smith was voted the most athletic rookie with 24% of the votes. Minnesota’s Josh Okogie, Thunder’s Hamidou Diallo and San Antonio’s Lonnie Walker IV were tied for second in that category. They each received 15% of the votes.

The rookies were also asked to name their favorite NBA player. 6% of rookies named Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook, which was tied for fourth

Predictably, The Lakers’ LeBron James was first with 29% of the votes. Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant of the Golden State Warriors each received 9%.

All eyes will be on the NBA rookies this year, after last year’s class made a name for themselves. It will be hard for the current rookie crop to live up to their achievements.

The likes of Donovan Mitchell, Ben Simmons and Jayson Tatum cemented their names a future All-Stars. As well as that, they made a difference in the playoffs, setting the bar high for this year’s rookie class.
