NFL Draft 2020: 5 teams which could trade up

5. Los Angeles Rams

The Rams have a couple of second-round picks after sending Brandin Cooks to the Houston Texans on Thursday night. While general manager Les Snead is also a candidate to trade back in an attempt to multiply his options, he could also package his pair of seconds, hoping to nab a top-tier player with a fifth-year option. The Rams have always been aggressive under Snead, and so while conventional wisdom says to either stay put or move back, keep an eye on Los Angeles.

4. Indianapolis Colts

The Colts also have a pair of second-round picks at Nos. 34 and 44. General manager Chris Ballard must feel he has a playoff-caliber roster, especially after signing quarterback Philip Rivers and trading for — and then extending — defensive tackle DeForest Buckner. However, both Rivers and backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett are only signed for 2020. It makes sense for Ballard to go after someone such as Jacob Eason or Jordan Love late in the first round if he likes the prospect as a long-term fix.

3. Denver Broncos

Denver only has one first-round pick but holds 12 selections throughout the course of the draft. General manager John Elway has done a nice job stockpiling ammunition for this moment, with a whopping five top 100 choices, including three in the third round. The Broncos have needs across the board, including cornerback, offensive line, receiver and linebacker. While Elway could decide to take his picks as they come, a player may fall who the Broncos love. They’d be in great position to pounce.

2. Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders have picks Nos. 12 and 19 in the first round. Las Vegas has a need at quarterback, even with both Derek Carr and Marcus Mariota on the roster. General manager Mike Mayock has needs on defense and at receiver as well and could sit tight, but landing a game-changer at the league’s ultimate position is tantalizing. If the Raiders can move ahead of the Los Angeles Chargers and Miami Dolphins for Tua Tagovailoa or Justin Herbert, not the worst move.

1. Miami Dolphins

It may not be a huge move in terms of draft slots, but the Dolphins could make the most important one of the process. Miami has three first-round picks and a league-best 14 overall. General manager Chris Grier understands that without moving into the top three, the Dolphins are vulnerable to another team — perhaps the Chargers — moving ahead of them and landing a franchise quarterback. With so much capital, perhaps Grier makes a preemptive strike.
