Patriots players among NFL contingent concerned about COVID-19
The last few months have been a difficult time across the globe regarding the ongoing pandemic with the coronavirus.
Things have begun to pick up over the last several weeks in the sports world, moving back toward some sort of normalcy. However, there is now a growing concern from the players that it will be difficult to follow the path of following the public health guidelines to help drop the coronavirus’s spread. Patriots cornerback Jonathan Jones wrote on Twitter, “I don’t know who needs to hear this but you can’t social distance football.”
Teammate Dont’a Hightower replied to that with, “Ain’t no way.”
Teammate Patrick Chung added, “Not a damn shot. They are trippin.”
These are reasonable concerns from the players given there is no clear-cut solution to help decrease the virus’s spread. It’s still something that nobody has a grip on finding a set route to complete prevention of the coronavirus. What makes things more challenging is that the NFL is a contact sport that is hard to move away from those situations entirely.
The league already announced the banning of exchanging jerseys, which has some players upset with that protocol. Houston Texans star defensive end JJ Watt has already voiced no desire to wear a potential complete plastic face shield in his helmet’s facemask.
That’s on top of the expected pay cut that the NFL is discussing with the NFLPA that could cause more issues. In short, there are many hurdles the league must get past first.
