Aaron Rodgers finally put Packers fans at ease

Aaron Rodgers spoke about his future on Tuesday, and the Green Bay Packers should be feeling relieved after the comments.

Green Bay lost 31-26 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Championship Game. As a result, Aaron Rodgers was understandably in a dour mood.

The superstar quarterback of the Green Bay Packers spoke to the media and seemingly left questions raised about his future, despite being signed for another three seasons. However, on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday morning, Rodgers used the platform to dispel any idea he wants out of Green Bay after a second consecutive loss in the NFC title game, per NFL.com:

“I don’t feel like I said anything that I hadn’t said before,” Rodgers said. “I said it the first time I talked to the media. It was just more of a realization, I think, that ultimately my future is not in my control, which just kind of hit me in the moment. I was thinking about Aaron Jones and Corey Linsley and some other guys we have under contract, Big Dog (Marcedes Lewis), guys who I don’t know what their futures are gonna be, and myself included.

“Obviously, after the season that I had, and potentially winning MVP and we obviously made another good run, I don’t think that there’s any reason why I wouldn’t be back. Look, there’s not many absolutes, as you guys know, in this business. So to make an absolute statement about something that is not an absolute, I didn’t do it. I guess that’s why everyone went kind of nuts.”

At 37 years old, Rodgers is overwhelmingly likely to win his third NFL MVP in a few weeks. He threw 48 touchdown passes in the NFC Championship game. Rodgers looked every bit the physical talent he was a decade ago when he won the Super Bowl. The idea of Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst dealing away Rodgers was always insane. Although at least for now it’s essentially put to bed.

Going into 2021, the Packers have some issues. They need to figure out the future of running backs Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams, along with fixing the clear problems in the secondary. Additionally, Rodgers needs another weapon opposite Davante Adams to keep defenses guessing.

However, one issue they won’t have is Rodgers being around, and that’s the most important news as we begin to look at free agency, the draft, and how Green Bay gets over the proverbial hump.
