Green Bay Packers reaffirm belief in Aaron Rodgers going forward
The Green Bay Packers are headed into the 2021 offseason with the future of their quarterback secure. They will spend the summer looking for pieces to get Aaron Rodgers the help he needs for another title.
Brian Gutekunst isn’t wasting his time. Or words.
The Green Bay Packers general manager talked to the media on Monday. His praise for quarterback Aaron Rodgers as effusive. Gutekunst has Rodgers under contract for the next three years. As a result, he’s charged with the task of building around the future first-ballot Hall of Famer. Green Bay needs to improve slightly after consecutive seasons of 13-3. Per ESPN, Gutekunst understands what’s ahead of him and the team.

“I don’t think I have to do a lot of assuring him because I think obviously his play speaks for itself. I will say this: We’re really excited not only for next year but the years to come. He’s playing at such a high level that he always has, and I think this year was a special team. It didn’t finish like we wanted to finish, but I think everybody’s purely motivated to get back and I think, like I said, I don’t think there’s anything that we have to do. He’s our quarterback, and he’s our leader.”
After back-to-back NFC North titles and conference championship game appearances, Green Bay clearly has the chops to make a Super Bowl appearance and subsequently win. However, the Packers have fallen short, the first time due to a faulty front seven and the second because of questionable coaching, a few turnovers and a lackluster secondary.

Gutekunst would be well-advised to address cornerback and receiver this offseason, helping Rodgers out on both sides of the ball. The Packers will likely let corner Kevin King test free agency, and with either draft or cap capital, take a few swings at upgrading his spot. Green Bay could also add another starter, with former second-round pick Josh Jackson being underwhelming.
Finally, there are a bevy of good receivers on the market led by Allen Robinson of the Chicago Bears and Chris Godwin of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Gutekunst doesn’t have money for them, but could he make intriguing pickups with buy-low, high-reward guys such as Will Fuller or Sammy Watkins? Absolutely. He could also make a play in the draft, with the receiver class perhaps the best of any group in this class.
The Packers aren’t far away. Gutekunst simply needs to add the finishing touches.
