Stephen Curry On Role Model Tom Brady

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry is using Tom Brady as an example as he heads into his ‘middle prime’.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback will play his 10th Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. He has already won six Super Bowls, more than any other quarterback in history.

Tom Brady is the greatest who has ever done it. The fact he’s still doing it at 43 is a motivation for all athletes, especially Stephen Curry.

“It’s a different sport, different position, but it’s definitely — the little things that you can do, that I’ve been doing, that I’m doing now, that I can do going forward to make sure your body is able to recover, able to stay in prime condition, so that you give yourself the best chance to be ready for season after season after season,” Curry said. 

“And then you make the necessary adjustments of what your game needs to morph into or things like that. … The approach and the discipline that he demonstrated on what it means to be a professional athlete at that level with that longevity, it doesn’t happen by accident. So there are things that you can do to put yourself in a position to stretch it out even farther.”

It’s no wonder Stephen Curry is looking towards Tom Brady for inspiration. His Warriors team made the NBA Finals for five straight years, but had a league worst 15 – 50 record last year. The Warriors are currently muddling through the rebuild, with an inconsistent 11-9 record this season.

Incredibly, if Brady wins the Super Bowl it could be his crowning achievement. His New England Patriots dynasty spanned two decades. He did the unthinkable and joined another team. That he is on the verge of his 7th ring in just his first year in Tampa speaks to his drive and longevity. Curry will be looking to return to the summit in similar fashion.

“You appreciate greatness. It’s amazing,” said Curry.

 “Seven years later and he’s still chasing Super Bowls and it’s one of those [situations] every time you see him in the bright stages, you can’t not watch. You expect greatness to happen. So we’ll be watching [Sunday] and see if he can get it done.”
