James Harden Surpasses Boston Celtics Great Larry Bird

Brooklyn Nets star James Harden says he wants his name mentioned among the NBA greats. He’s going the right away about it.

James Harden continued his record breaking, history making first season in Brooklyn against the Detroit Pistons on Saturday night.

He recorded a triple double with 24 points, ten rebounds and 10 assists in a 100 – 95 win. As well as that, James Harden moved past Larry Bird on the NBA’s all time scoring list.

He now has 21,792 points, one more than Larry Bird.

“We all know how good Larry was and the things he did in Boston,” Harden said.

“A legend. And I think I just play the game the right way, and hopefully good things happen for me passing one of the greatest ever to play basketball is a great honor.”

It was Harden’s ninth triple double of the season. Currently, he’s tied for the third most triple doubles by a player in a single season with the Nets. As well as that, it’s the fourth most by a player in his first season with a team. Harden is well on track to smash Jason Kidd’s record of 12 in 2008.

Harden also tied his second most clutch time points, with the final ten of the night for Brooklyn. He is 22 points away from moving beyond Gary Payton (21,813) on the all time list.

“I just got to continue to build, because at the end of the day, I want my name to be mentioned with those greats,” Harden said.
