Anthony Edwards Scores Career High 42 Points Against Suns
For the current NBA-worst Minnesota Timberwolves (10 – 31), rookie shooting guard Anthony Edwards is a glimmer of hope.
Anthony Edwards scored a career-high 42 points in a record breaking performance that spurred a Minnesota comeback on Thursday night. Dovetailing with Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards inspired a 123 – 119 victory over the Phoenix Suns.
Anthony Edwards is now the third-youngest player in NBA history to play a 40 point game, at 19 years and 225 days old. The only other rookies to score more in a game are LeBron James and Kevin Durant.
No other Timberwolves rookie has scored as many points. In that respect, Edwards is ahead of Zach LaVine (37), Towns (35), and Christian Laettner (35). As well as that, he is now the highest scoring rookie this season, ahead of the 76ers’ Tyrese Maxey.

Minnesota head coach Chris Finch, who was appointed on Feb. 22, said ‘our future success starts now’ after the game.
Finch is certainly starting to get the best out of the 2020 No.1 overall pick. Over 10 games, Edwards is averaging 24.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.3 steals while shooting an increased 41.9% from the field.
“He’s blooming for us at the right time,†Finch added.
“I put in the work,†Edwards said after Thursday’s game. “I work in the dark. It should come to the light.†Minnesota has now won three of its five games following the All-Star break.
“We’re winning,” Edwards said. “It’s always happy when we’re winning.”

Karl-Anthony Towns also had a standout performance with a season-high 41 points. He and Edwards are just the seventh duo to score 40 points each in the last 20 years. The last to do it were Kawhi Leonard and Paul George in 2019.
It was only the second time in Timberwolves history that two players scored 40 points in the same game.
“Unbelievably special,” Finch said. “They played pretty efficient. KAT almost has a triple-double.
They were carrying us.”
