Dallas Cowboys not interested in signing Cam Newton
Less than two weeks before the 2021 season, the New England Patriots made the surprising move to release three-time Pro Bowler Cam Newton.
It immediately pushes Newton into the open market, available to sign with any team to extend his NFL career. However, it hasn’t led to any significant interest in his services.

Early reports indicated the Dallas Cowboys may be interested in adding him to the mix. Those chances were quickly shot down after head coach Mike McCarthy voiced the franchise is happy with their current quarterback situation.
“I think he has a ton of football left,” Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said of Newton on Thursday. “But we’re very excited about the group that we have.”
The Cowboys are moving full steam ahead with Dak Prescott under center, especially after inking a four-year, $160 million contract earlier this offseason. Prescott dealt with a nagging shoulder injury throughout training camp and the preseason, but he’s on track to play in Week 1 action against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys have Cooper Rush as the primary back while picking up Will Grier after his recent release from the Carolina Panthers. The bigger question that appears to remain is Newton’s willingness to take up a backup role.
It’s likely that played a factor in his release from the Patriots. If he wants to extend his career, he will take up backup duties wherever he plays next. He holds his NFL future in his hands as that will be the only way he receives another opportunity.
