Nuggets believe they’re still in a ‘championship window’

After falling short of repeating as NBA champions, the Denver Nuggets hold unwithering confidence that they can return toward competing for another championship.

Star guard Jamal Murray, who signed a four-year, $208 million maximum contract extension earlier this month, voiced that he believes the Nuggets need to approach this upcoming season with the right mentality.

“He reminds his teammates, don’t take this for granted,” Malone said during the Nuggets’ media day held Thursday via ESPN. “He goes, ‘We have a championship window, not every team has a championship window. And what do you do? Do you take advantage of that, or do you look back in 20 years and have regrets?'”

In light of those remarks, head coach Michael Malone agreed with Murray’s remarks and viewpoint.

“He reminds his teammates, don’t take this for granted,” Malone said during the Nuggets’ media day held Thursday. “He goes, ‘We have a championship window, not every team has a championship window. And what do you do? Do you take advantage of that, or do you look back in 20 years and have regrets?'”

A significant reason for that mindset shared by the Nuggets throughout the organization stems from star center Nikola Jokic, who is currently in the prime of his career. The 29-year-old is coming off his third MVP season, where he averaged a near triple-double with 26.4 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 9.0 assists.

Although Jokic may have a handful more seasons at his peak performance, the Nuggets want to make the most of the opportunity. Denver will have that chance to add a second NBA title in franchise history this upcoming season.
