76ers’ Joel Embiid will miss some time with knee issue
The Philadelphia 76ers will be without star big man Joel Embiid for the team’s upcoming road trip due to persistent swelling in his left knee.
Embiid missed six games due to a sprained left foot, which he recovered from the injury. However, he started to experience swelling in the same knee during a workout on Thursday.
The former league MVP will receive additional treatment and is expected to be reevaluated by the team in seven to 10 days. It’s been nothing short of a frustrating 2024-25 campaign for Embiid as he’s already missed 26 games due to various injuries.
It has seen their big three of Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George play only 10 games together, where the team holds a 7-3 record. In Embiid’s absence, Philadelphia holds an 8-18 record and a 7-6 mark when he is on the floor.
In the 13 games he’s played, he’s averaging 24.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 3.8 assists while shooting 45.2 percent from the floor and 32.7 percent from beyond the arc.

He has scored 20 or more points nine times, including topping 30 or more points on five occasions while notching four double-doubles. He had appeared to be turning a corner in the first two games in January with back-to-back 20-point and 10-rebound games before his foot injury.
The 76ers have spent the bulk of the season behind the eight ball, sitting in 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings with a 15-24 record. Philadelphia is 1.5 games behind the Chicago Bulls for the 10th spot and trails the Detroit Pistons by five games for the eighth position.
