Chiefs’ Travis Kelce: ‘I’m coming back for sure’
After weeks of speculation, Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce will return to play in the 2025 season.
During Thursday’s episode of “The Pat McAfee Show,” Pat McAfee read a text from the three-time Super Bowl champion that confirmed he will continue his first-ballot Hall of Fame career.
“I’m coming back for sure. Gonna try to get into the best shape I’ve been this offseason and get back to the mountaintop,” Kelce wrote in the text via ESPN. “Got a real bad taste in my mouth with how I played in that last game and with how I got the guys ready for battle. I can’t go out like that!!!!”
A few hours later, the “New Heights” podcast posted further clarification of that stance stating: “From the desk of @tkelce: ITS TIME FOR YEAR 13.”
The decision doesn’t come with much surprise given that the Chiefs are coming off a disappointing blowout loss in the Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles.
He had stated before the Super Bowl that he had intended to play another season, but the loss likely gave him some pause on his future plans.

However, Kelce is coming off one of his least productive campaigns, posting 823 receiving yards and three touchdowns while leading the team with 97 receptions.
Although his production isn’t what it once was, he remains a focal point of the Chiefs’ offensive game plan as Patrick Mahomes’ safety net in the passing game. Kelce is heading into the final year of his two-year, $34.2 million deal.
