Giants shift focus to landing Aaron Rodgers

Following star quarterback Matthew Stafford’s return to the Los Angeles Rams, the New York Giants have shifted their focus toward four-time league MVP Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers is set to hit the free-agent market this offseason, which could make him the Giants’ primary target. The organization is believed to be interested in other quarterbacks, such as Sam Darnold and Russell Wilson.

Darnold is coming off his career-best campaign that earned him his first Pro Bowl selection while leading the Minnesota Vikings to the playoffs. However, his struggles down the stretch of the season have also soured the conversation a bit about returning to the Vikings.

Minnesota may be hesitant to offer Darnold a significant contract, given how he played in the season’s final two games. It could open the door for the Giants to give him the lucrative deal he desires while securing the franchise a starting quarterback.

Wilson is coming off helping lead the Pittsburgh Steelers to the playoffs, but his performance diminished in the second half of the regular season. The Steelers also had a disappointing wildcard round exit that dampened the return talks.

Given his availability, Rodgers could be high on the list of options, which could factor into his playing with New York.

The Giants sit in a precarious position with the third overall pick in this year’s draft, which puts him in a prime spot to add one of the top quarterback prospects.

What New York plans to do in free agency could see massive change ahead under center.
