Mark Cuban shares his reaction to Mavs trading Luka Doncic

The shocking Luka Doncic trade to the Los Angeles Lakers has drawn plenty of reactions around the league.

Among those most prominent is former Dallas Mavericks majority owner Mark Cuban, who recently exclaimed that the franchise should have acquired more in return for the star point guard.

“If the Mavs are going to trade Luka, that’s one thing,” Cuban said in an interview with WFAA, the ABC affiliate in Dallas via ESPN. “Just get a better deal. No disrespect to Anthony Davis, but I still firmly believe if we had gotten four unprotected No. 1s and Anthony Davis and Max Christie, this would be a different conversation.”

Cuban’s remarks weren’t to slight Davis or Christie, but the Mavericks moved off one of the game’s best players, who can be argued has not yet entered his physical prime.

Many view Doncic as a generational talent that the Lakers could build their team around for the next decade. Meanwhile, Davis is a bona fide star. Still, he’s 31 years old and has a checkered injury history that has prevented him from maximizing his talent and being a highly dependable core piece.

Things could certainly have a different outlook, but the optics of trading a player of Doncic’s status have left many puzzled about the Mavericks’ long-term future direction.

What has compounded the situation is that All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving’s torn ACL could significantly shape the franchise’s future over the next few seasons.
