Bills sign veteran defensive end Joey Bosa

The Buffalo Bills beefed up their pass rush by adding former Pro Bowl defensive end Joey Bosa on a one-year, $12.6 million deal.

Bosa was released by the Los Angeles Chargers after nine seasons, during which time he racked up 72.0 sacks and 17 forced fumbles.

The Bills needed a prominent pass rusher after releasing Von Miller, saving the team $8.4 million in salary cap space. Buffalo also further secured its defensive front after agreeing to a four-year extension with defensive end Greg Rousseau.

The Bills also inked former Los Angeles Rams defensive end Michael Hoecht to a three-year deal and restructured defensive tackle Ed Oliver’s contract.

Bosa is stepping into an opportunity to be a significant factor with the Bills. The franchise is banking on the 29-year-old finally moving past the persistent injury woes that forced him to miss 23 games over the last three seasons.

Bosa hasn’t posted double-digit sacks since 2021 and has only played all possible regular-season games three times in his career.

He played in 14 games last year but was sidelined for significant chunks of the previous two campaigns. He posted 5.0 sacks, 39 total tackles, and two forced fumbles that earned the selection as a Pro Bowl alternate.

The Bills need their revamped defensive front to once again become a prominent pass rush. Last year, they had 39 total sacks, down from the 54 posted in 2023.

It played a part in the front office’s decision to move off Miller in hopes of retooling the defensive line and regaining a vaunted pass rush.
