Myles Garrett admits ‘frustration’ with Browns about winning

Following weeks of uncertainty around star defensive end Myles Garrett, his future in Cleveland is secured behind a record-setting four-year extension.

It comes about a month after he publicly requested a trade, which makes the sudden change a bit puzzling because he stated that he could only compete for a Super Bowl elsewhere.

Garrett’s new contract averages $40 million a year, giving him the highest annual non-quarterback salary in the league, and includes $123.5 million in guaranteed money.

He said he doesn’t regret publicly demanding a trade and believes it brought him and the Browns to the negotiation table.

“I think I had some frustration,” Garrett said via ESPN. “And I feel like that helped us grow and have conversations that were difficult but that needed to be had and helped create a little bit more discourse, helped build some relationships and reaffirm them. And now I feel like we’re in a better place and now we can move on.

“I think the fans will see that my heart is in the right place. It has never been about money. It’s always been about winning. That’s where my frustration lies.”

Regardless of the sentiment surrounding the situation or how it was handled, the Browns have secured one of the league’s best defensive players for the foreseeable future.
