Steelers still waiting on veteran QB Aaron Rodgers

The Pittsburgh Steelers have addressed their quarterback situation by selecting Ohio State’s Will Howard in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Howard joins a quarterback room alongside Skylar Thompson and Mason Rudolph. As the offseason program progresses, the Steelers have remained firm in their plan to keep four quarterbacks on the roster, which leaves the possibility of adding Aaron Rodgers to the mix.

Head coach Mike Tomlin didn’t shoot down the scenario that the four-time league MVP joins the fray this offseason.

“That’s certainly a possibility,” Tomlin said via ESPN. “I’m not going to forecast the ifs and whens regarding not only him, but any other potential free agent. We’ve had really productive talks with him, and I’ve enjoyed having productive talks with him and getting to know him.”

As of now, the Steelers have an intriguing quarterback room that could see Howard make headway ahead of his first season. He is coming off leading Ohio State to a national championship, where he threw for 630 yards with five touchdowns.

He notched 4,010 passing yards, 35 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions while guiding the Buckeyes to a 14-2 record. If Rodgers doesn’t sign with Pittsburgh, Howard could have a legitimate shot to earn the starting job ahead of the 2025 season.

Rudolph has starting experience while also previously playing for the Steelers, but he has yet to separate himself as a legitimate NFL starter.

There should be clarity concerning Rodgers’ status as Pittsburgh continues to ramp up its offseason program.
