Andre Drummond set to return to 76ers next season

The Philadelphia 76ers entered the 2024-25 NBA season with high hopes of being a legitimate title contender in the Eastern Conference, bolstered by the storied franchise’s signing of Paul George to join Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.

Unfortunately for the 76ers, things didn’t go as planned in Philadelphia, as injuries ravaged the team, resulting in one of the worst seasons in recent memory, leaving many questions heading into the NBA offseason.

One of those questions was whether Drummond would elect to test the NBA free agency market and leave the team. It didn’t take him long to make a decision, as he seemed to have no intention of leaving Philadelphia for greener pastures around the league, via Shams Charania of ESPN.

Philadelphia 76ers center Andre Drummond has picked up his $5 million player option for the 2025-26 season, sources told ESPN on Friday.

With Embiid still on the mend from knee surgery, Drummond is a decent insurance policy in the frontcourt heading into next season. Although he’s not the player he once was, he can still be a force to be reckoned with on the glass and provide some depth in the frontcourt.

Drummond signed a two-year, $10 million deal with the 76ers last summer. He is in his second stint in Philadelphia after also spending the first half of the 2021-22 season with the team before going to the Brooklyn Nets as part of the James Harden trade.

It’ll be interesting to see what other moves the 76ers make this summer as they try to bounce back from a forgettable 2024-25 campaign.
