NBA sets opening night schedule for 2025-26 season
It is officially the dog days of summer when it comes to professional sports in the United States, but things are starting to ramp up, with the season-opening night for the NBA being right around the corner on Oct. 21.
Earlier this week, ESPN’s Shams Charania leaked the schedule for opening night in the NBA, featuring two heavyweight showdowns between prominent Western Conference teams, headlined by legends LeBron James and Stephen Curry.
The opening night of the 2025-26 NBA season will feature the Houston Rockets at the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder and the Golden State Warriors at the Los Angeles Lakers, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Friday.
Along with some potential title contenders in the West battling it out to get the 2025-26 NBA regular season underway in late October, the highly-anticipated matchups for Christmas Day have also been leaked, with some intriguing games on tap.

On Dec. 25, the New York Knicks will host the Cleveland Cavaliers to get things started, followed by the San Antonio Spurs taking on the defending NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder, Rockets heading to Los Angeles to take on the Lakers, Dallas Mavericks facing the Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves traveling to the Mile High City to face Nikola Jokic’s Denver Nuggets.
Needless to say, there are some entertaining matchups to look forward to when the season gets underway, especially in the Western Conference, where many believe will be highly competitive once again, perhaps even more so compared to last season.
