Anthony Richardson’s agent sheds doubt on future with Colts

The Indianapolis Colts made a surprising decision recently by choosing to make veteran Daniel Jones the Week 1 starter at the quarterback position over Anthony Richardson.

The decision didn’t sit well with Richardson and his agent, Deiric Jackson. The second-year quarterback’s future with the Colts is now up in the air, with Jackson making the following comments about the situation in Indianapolis, according to Stephen Holder of ESPN.

“We have a lot to discuss,” Jackson said.

“Trust is a big factor and that is, at best, questionable right now,” Jackson said. “Anthony came back and made the improvements in the areas he needed to improve. And by all accounts, he had a great camp.”

Not only will Richardson not be the Week 1 starter against the Miami Dolphins on Sept. 7, but Colts head coach Shane Steichen let it be known that Jones is expected to be the starter under center for the entire 2025 campaign.

Richardson said there’s “no hard feelings” about the benching.

“[Steichen] made a decision,” he said. “That’s the decision we’ve got to live with, but no hard feelings, nothing personal. I’ve just got to keep growing. I just can’t let me not being a starter stop me from going and being the person, the player that I’m supposed to be.”

Although Jones is the starter moving forward, that can change quickly if the former New York Giants star struggles in the early going of the 2025 NFL season.

That said, Richardson getting benched might be something that’s forgotten in the near future, but it could also be something that leads his agent to pursue a trade.
