Daniel Jones earns starting job for Colts
The Indianapolis Colts have made a decision regarding who will be their starting quarterback to start the 2025 NFL season.
After a lot of speculation about who would come out on top between veteran Daniel Jones and second-year gunslinger Anthony Richardson, the Colts have chosen to go the veteran route, according to head coach Shane Steichen via Stephen Holder and Adam Schefter of ESPN.
“I think the guys have taken to him. He’s a great communicator with the guys. You can see that veteran presence out there. So, I’m excited for that,” Steichen said Tuesday.
Asked if this was intended to be a permanent move, Steichen said of Jones, “He’s our starting quarterback for the season. I don’t want to have a quick leash on that. I feel confident in his abilities.”
It seems as though Jones, who flamed out quickly with the New York Giants after two forgettable seasons the last couple of years, will get another chance to lead a franchise under center. Steichen clearly values what he brings to the table over an inconsistent and often injured Anthony Richardson.

Steichen admits Richardson still has a lot to learn playing on the NFL level and may benefit from watching rather than playing during the 2025 campaign.
“He’s still learning, still growing. And for the first time in his career, this is an opportunity for him to sit at the start of a season and learning in a different light and attack it the right way,” Steichen said.
Although Jones is the starter for now and the foreseeable future if all goes well, it won’t be surprising to see the Colts make a change during the season if things go sideways.
