Jets GM: Justin Fields can follow in footsteps of 2 notable QBs
The New York Jets are once again starting over at the quarterback position, with Aaron Rodgers now with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the storied franchise bringing in Justin Fields to be the four-time NFL MVP’s successor.
The Jets have struggled to get the quarterback position right for a long time, as it always seems like something goes awry, no matter how talented the player under center is.
However, Jets general manager Darren Mougey believes Fields can follow in the footsteps of Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold, who resurrected their careers after multiple disappointing stints with other teams, via Rich Cimini of ESPN.
“I do believe Justin can be one of those guys,” Mougey said Thursday morning, speaking to reporters for the first time since the draft in April. “I’ve seen progress during this camp and look forward to seeing the progress throughout the season as they all come together.
“Obviously, it’s his third stop in three years with three different coordinators and a lot of moving parts, so it does take time,” Mougey added. “But I like where he’s at and I look forward to watching the progress.”
Mayfield and Darnold are prime examples of players who have been able to turn it around after seemingly flaming out as high draft picks at the quarterback position.

A couple of things Fields has going for him are the backing of the organization and the fact that there’s no quarterback controversy in New York. Fields won’t have to look over his shoulder, and that might be exactly what he needs to succeed with the Jets.
