Cowboys trade Micah Parsons to Packers

After a long standoff between superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys over his contract situation, the two sides have finally parted ways.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Cowboys have traded Parsons to the Green Bay Packers.

The Dallas Cowboys are trading three-time All-Pro linebacker Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Packers wasted no time in getting a new deal done for Parsons, as the superstar linebacker will get $120 million in guaranteed money over the course of his four-year deal with Green Bay via ESPN.

Parsons and the Packers already have reached an agreement on a four-year, $188 million contract, the sources said.

Parsons will receive $62 million in the first new year of the deal, $120 million fully guaranteed, and a total of $136 million guaranteed — all records for non-quarterbacks.

This is a shocking turn of events for the Cowboys, as it seemed like it would be only a matter of time before the two sides saw eye-to-eye on a contract extension. Apparently, the damage was done, and Parsons was determined to be moved. He landed in an ideal situation with a team that could be a Super Bowl title contender for the foreseeable future, with a star quarterback under center in Jordan Love and Parsons now leading the defense.

It can be safely said that the Packers have greatly improved following this deal, while the Cowboys will likely continue to take a step back in the Jerry Jones era, with no telling which direction the storied franchise is headed.
