Mountain West vs PAC 12: Who is Better?

The Mountain West Conference may be taking over as the most powerful conference in the western half of the country over the traditional power, the PAC 12. The best team in the West might not be from either conference. That team may be the Gonzaga Bulldogs from the West Coast Conference. But the Arizona Wildcats may disagree with that. Let’s look at the futures according to TopBet on some of the teams odds on winning the NCAA Tournament from out west.

Arizona Wildcats- +1200

Brigham Young Cougars- +60,000 (that makes us want to put $10 on BYU just for the heck of it. That’s a $6000.00 check if they win it all)

Cal Golden Bears- +50,000 (We still like BYU better)

Colorado Buffaloes- +27,500

Colorado State Rams- +55,000 (we really like this one. Put a $100 on this team and get back $55 grand)

Gonzaga Bulldogs- +1,500 (We like this one)

Long Beach State 49ers- +60,000 (much rather have BYU)

New Mexico Lobos- +8,000 (we like this one too)

Nevada Wolf Pack- +75,000

Oregon Ducks- +12,500 (We like this one a lot)

Oregon State Beavers- +20,000

San Diego State Aztecs- +2,500 (We love this one)

St. Mary’s Gaels- +60,000 (might be worth placing the minimum bet on)

Stanford Cardinal- +40,000

UCLA Bruins- +2,000 (Definitely worth putting $100.00 on this one)

UNLV Runnin Rebels- +3000

USC Trojans- +60,000

Utah State Aggies- +80,000

Washington Huskies- +50,000 (worth a risk)

Teams that did not make the cut the cut that we would have liked to seen make the list include the Wyoming Cowboys, Boise State Broncos and the Arizona State Sun Devils. If you notice, the odds on most of the Mountain West teams are extremely high compared to the PAC 12. But if we look at the current RPI rankings, Mountain West teams are doing quite well. New Mexico is ranked #12. UNLV is ranked 24, Colorado State is #27, Boise State is #28, San Diego State is #29, And Wyoming is #35.  The PAC 12 has Arizona at #3, Colorado at #16, Oregon at #25 and UCLA at #34.  So the MWC has six teams in the top 35 compared to four for the PAC 12. Yet, if you look at the odds, the MWC teams are undervalued compared to the PAC 12.  Keep this in mind while placing your wagers. And don’t forget those WCC teams.
