NCAAB News Update 7/24/2013

The College Basketball season is still a while away, however, there has been some big news over the last few days that will likely shake-up the odds and have a tremendous impact on the season when it does eventually start.

Kyle Wiltjer Will Transfer to Gonzaga

Kentucky had a lackluster season, failing to make it into the playoffs and falling very short of fan, team and the media’s expectations.   However, over at Bovada they are a team that is the favorites to take the NCAA Championship this year with 7/2 odds and expectations of having a comeback season are higher than ever.  Kentucky is going to have to do it without one of their top Wildcats, though.

Kyle Wiltjer has officially stated that he will be transferring to Gonzaga where he hopes to “maximize development.” Wiltjer leaving Kentucky when they are poised to be a Championship team for Gonzaga, a team with 50/1 odds of taking the Championship, left a lot of people stunned.  However, Wiltjer will have the opportunity to shine brightly at Gonzaga as the big man will be taking the place of Kelly Olynyk and will be expected to be one of the team’s to offensive players.  Hopefully, he will be able to catch the attention of a pro team with his time in Gonzaga.

Marcus Smart Will Declare for 2014 Draft

It is not official, but Marcus Smart says that he plans on declaring for the 2014 draft after this sophomore year at Oklahoma State.

It’s safe to say that if, by the grace of God I’m healthy and everything, this will be my last year at Oklahoma State. Nothing will change my mind on that. Oklahoma State understands. They didn’t figure I was coming back this year. They were just as surprised as everyone else.

Most sports analysts expected smart to declare this year, but he has clearly decided to stick it out one more season with Oklahoma State.
