Live on ESPN coming out of Nashville at 3 p.m. ET is the Music City Bowl that features Notre Dame taking on LSU. While Notre Dame is not ranked, this is still a popular game among bettors and a duel between two legendary football programs, so let’s take a look at some pertinent info before you lay down some money.
LUS is ranked No. 22 and the Tigers are not looking to get knocked off in Bowl season by an unranked foe, especially considering they finished the season in an unspectacular fashion.
LSU lost their last three games, which saw them plummet in the rankings. The Tigers lost to Mississippi State, Auburn, Alabama and Arkansas, finishing fifth in the SEC West.
LSU did manage to win their last game. They wrapped up their regular season by covering a 3-point spread as favorites against Texas A&M, winning 23-17. They hit the UNDER in their final game.
Quarterback Anthony Jennings has taking most of the blame for the losses, completing under 50 percent of his passes with seven interceptions.
The key to winning for LSU lies with running back Leonard Fournette. When he rushes for over 100 yards the Tigers are 4-0.
The Tigers real shining spot, though, is defense, allowing just 16.4 points per game. They have shut out two opponents this season and limited three others to less than ten points.
Notre Dame also struggled to close the season. They lost their last game to the USC Trojans, failing to cover a 5.5-point spread as the underdogs. The total hit a 63 point PUSH.
Notre Dame’s poor ending to the season is particularly disappointing considering they started the season with six consecutive wins.
The Notre Dame offense has struggled with turnovers, which is likely why Malik Zaire, sophomore backup, is penciled in to start this game, though Everett Golson is expected to see some play time. Golson threw 14 interceptions this season. The run game is led by Tarean Folston rushed 553 yards in his last six games after struggling at the beginning of the season.
The Notre Dame Defense has struggled due to injury but both Cody Riggs and Sheldon Day are schedule to return from injury., so LSU will be getting Nore Dame at their best.
The Tigers are 8-point favorites against the Irish. The Irish have struggled against the spread going 5-7 and failing to cover in its last five games. LSU is 8-3-1 against the spread.
The total is a tricky one to bet on. Notre Dame faovrs the OVER, going OVER in six of its last seven games. The Tiger, on the other hand, have hit the UNDER in five consecutive games.
