2014 Pro Football Hall of Fame Class Announced
The 2014 Hall of Fame class was announced at the NFL Honors ceremony at Radio City Music Hall on Saturday. Canton’s newest members to be enshrined are Derrick Brooks, Ray Guy, Claude Humphrey, Walter Jones, Andre Reed, Michael Strahan and Aeneas Williams.
All seven men were on hand for the event and were welcomed by thunderous applause as they took the stage in New York City, just one day ahead of Super Bowl XLVIII. It marked the first time the Hall of Fame announcement was made at the show.
Both Humphrey and Guy were Veterans Committee candidates and Guy is the first punter ever to make it to Canton. His candidacy has been debated among voters for years, but the momentum behind him had been building, particularly in the last two years.
For Strahan the nod came one year later than it should have—he was first eligible in 2013, but missed the cut. The same might be said for wide receiver Marvin Harrison, who was very surprisingly left on the outside looking in in his first year of eligibility.
Though the announcement has been made, the seven men chosen still have to wait a little longer to see those creepy busts made in their respective likeness. The ceremony in Canton will take place sometime in July.
