Aaron Hernandez Going Broke, Got His Prison Sentence Tattooed On His Neck
Although he’s currently pursuing the appeal he’s entitled to under the law after being convicted of the first-degree murder of former friend Odin Lloyd, former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has found time to add to what was already an impressive collection of ink.
And it seems to suggest he’s resigned to his fate, given the new tat, which is featured prominently on his neck, says “Lifetime.†First-degree murder comes with an automatic life sentence in Massachusetts, and Hernandez is also facing another trial for double murder outside a Boston nightclub in 2012.
According to a report in Time, the reference may actually point to his affiliation with the Bloods gang. But either way, two birds, one stone.
Hernandez is very unlikely to ever see the light of day, given his conviction, the unlikely success of his appeal, and the other litany of charges he’s already been indicted on. So pledging his allegiance to a gang in prison was inevitable, the tattoo pay homage to both the Bloods and the justice system actually working.
And if you’re thinking there’s still a way he can buy his way out this trouble, think again. On Friday his lawyer noted that despite all the talk about his $40 million contract, Hernandez only played and was paid for one year of it.
Hernandez hired a bevy of high-priced lawyers, who have been billing him around the clock since his arrest in June 2013. He’s also reportedly paying an undisclosed amount to support his young daughter with fiancé, Shayanna Jenkins.
He’s also on the hook for damages in the Lloyd case. According the AP, Loyd’s mother, Ursula Ward, have sued Hernandez and she may be awarded as much as $5 million in the case. Her lawyers are diligently tracking down any potential assets Hernandez has hidden.
