ACC Tournament Preview

NCAA1It is tournament time for college basketball with many of the conferences first rounds kicking off today including the ACC.

Both Syracuse and Pittsburgh will making their first appearance in an ACC tournament, while Maryland will be making it last appearance in the ACC tournament as they will go to the Big Ten next season.

Despite taking some losses to close the season, Virginia, Syracuse, Duke and North Carolina will be heading to the NCAA tournament regardless of how things go in the conference tournament.  However, all these teams would love to add ACC champs to their namesake heading into March Madness.

Syracuse fell especially hard at the end of the season.  They started 25-0 and hovered in the top three on the AP Poll for much of the season until they dropped four of their last six games.

Duke may be the team with the most momentum coming into the tournament after they snapped North Carolina’s 12-game wining streak.

Pittsburgh perhaps has the most to gain from an ACC tournament win.  The Pittsburgh may be on the outside looking in when the brackets are filled out after all the conference tournaments are said and done.  A strong showing for them here could make the difference between ending their post season, or playing to the end of March.

Miami won last year but have looked terrible this season, though they will have to make it past Virginia Tech today in order to keep its conference championship hopes alive

The first round game of the ACC tournament being featured tonight at 7 p.m. ET is Georgia Tech versus Boston College.  Georgia Tech is favored over at Bovada.  You can watch the game on ESPN2.
