Celtics sign Joe Mazzulla to contract extension
The Boston Celtics are heading into what could be a difficult year for the storied NBA franchise, with superstar Jayson Tatum recovering from a torn Achilles tendon he suffered during the NBA playoffs.
Even though the Celtics could be in for a rough 2025-26 season, with the team also trading away Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday, the team decided to secure the long-term future of head coach Joe Mazzulla.

According to the Associated Press via ESPN, the Celtics have signed Mazzulla to a multiyear contract extension.
Celtics president Brad Stevens has said throughout the offseason that the team wanted Joe Mazzulla to be its coach for a long time.
It made that more than a proclamation Friday, announcing it had signed Mazzulla to a multiyear contract extension. Length and details of the new deal were not released.
Mazzulla made the following statement after agreeing to a contract extension with Boston.
“I would not be here without my faith, my wife, and my children,” Mazzulla said. “We are thankful for the partnership with our ownership groups, Brad’s mentorship, and the support of our staff. Most importantly, I am grateful for the players I have been able to coach the past three seasons. I look forward to competing for the Celtics and the city of Boston.”
Although the Celtics had a good situation and were a winning team with Ime Udoka running the show, the team decided to part ways, which thrust Mazzulla into the spotlight in Boston. The consensus was the Celtics would take a step back after Udoka’s departure, but they haven’t missed a beat and now have another championship banner hanging in the rafters.
