Adrian Peterson expected to make Saints debut against Texans

The New Orleans Saints haven’t been taking any chances during the NFL preseason thus far in terms of the health of their veteran players. Drew Brees has yet to take a snap nor has Adrian Peterson made his debut for his new team in New Orleans.

Apparently, Saturday’s game against the Houston Texans could showcase both of the team’s superstars on offense. Saints head coach Sean Payton hinted at Peterson and Brees seeing time on the gridiron this weekend, via ESPN’s Mike Triplett.

“We haven’t met yet. We’ll sit down and go through the roles. And I’m sure we’re gonna want to see them play some,” Payton said. “How much, we’ll see.”

It has been quite some time since Peterson has seen any action on the football field. The veteran running back played a down since suffering a season-ending knee injury with the Minnesota Vikings in the third game of the 2016 campaign.

In fact, Peterson has played a grand total of 20 games over the past three seasons. Although the 32-year-old is still considered a star player in the NFL and always a threat out of the backfield, there’s no telling what is in store for the veteran this season and if he’s still the same dominant player of old.

Obviously, the Saints were willing to take a chance on him and for good reason, as it could quickly make New Orleans the once-feared high-powered offense with the one-two punch of Peterson and Brees.
