Adrian Peterson Now Eighth on All-Time NFL Rushing List

On Saturday, running back Adrian Peterson passed the 1,000-yard mark for rushing for this season becoming the oldest NFL running back in 34 years to surpass that milestone.

The Washington Redskins running back passed Eric Dickerson, an idol of Peterson’s, to move into the eighth spot on the all-time NFL rushing list.

Peterson passed 1,000 yards rushing for the season early in the fourth quarter on a run of 5 yards and became only the fifth NFL player to ever rush for 1,000 or more yards in one season at 33 years of age or older.

The previous four were John Henry Johnson in 1964, Franco Harris in 1983, John Riggins in 1983 and 1984, and Frank Gore in 2016.

The Redskins lost the game to Tennessee 25-16 to fall to 7-8 on the season. Washington has lost five of the last six and will be out of playoff contention with a win by the Philadelphia Eagles or wins by both Minnesota and Seattle on Sunday.

Peterson started the game on Saturday 77 yards shy of 1,000. He rushed for 60 yards during the first half, before reaching the 1,000-yard threshold early in the fourth quarter. Peterson finished the game with 119 yards rushing and now has 1,042 on the season with one regular season game remaining.

Peterson is 2 months older than Gore when the Miami Dolphins running back then with the Indianapolis Colts, accomplished the feat in 2016, which makes Peterson the oldest back to reach that milestone since John Riggins accomplished the feat in 1984 with the Washington Redskins.

Peterson has now rushed for 1,000 or more yards eight times during his career and it is the first time since 2015 that he has reached the that mark.

The Washington running back was able to accomplish the feat behind an offensive line of the Redskins that has been decimated by injury. Five pairs of offensive guards have started for the Redskins this season. Both starters Brandon Scherff and Shawn Lauvao were lost to season-ending injuries against Atlanta in Week 8.
