Andrew Wiggins Declares For NBA Draft
Surprising absolutely no one, on Monday Andrew Wiggins declared for the NBA draft. The Kansas freshman’s announcement made the news official, of course it’s long been considered nothing more than a formality.
Though he played just one season with the Jayhawks, Wiggins certainly made his mark. Unfortunately he ends his college career on a sour note, having contributed next to nothing in Kansas’ recent upset loss to Stanford in the NCAA Tournament.
Coach Bill Self held a press conference with Wiggins at the Phog Allen Fieldhouse to announce the news.
Said Self, “He was so coachable, a great teammate. As good as he was for us, he’s only scratching the surface of what he can do. … He’s a humble, unselfish, team-first guy. He’s been an unbelievable ambassador to our program.â€
Seems Self was going out of his way to convince everyone of Wiggins’ humility. That probably has something to do with the fact that he publicly mocked Stanford’s leading scorer, pretending as if he never heard of him, the day before getting waxed by the Cardinal.
Wiggins said of his departure, “It wasn’t an easy decision. I wish I had more time, time goes so fast. I wish I had all four years. “
Someone should have told the kid he wasn’t obligated to leave after his freshman year, because it doesn’t sound like he’s aware of that. From his statement alone, you’d think someone was forcing him into the draft at gun point.
“I’m confident I’m ready,†Wiggins added. “No one’s game is perfect. I have a lot to work on.â€
And we all know the best place for a young guy with a lot to learn to work out the kinks in his game is playing against the likes of LeBron James and Kevin Durant. Why stay in college and get prepared when you can come in underprepared and get paid?
