Big 12 Title Still Up for Grabs
Two weeks remain in the NCAA football regular season, with plenty left to be decided across the country including in the Big 12.
Week 14 kicked off on Thanksgiving Day in the Big 12 with the Texas Longhorns routing the Texas Tech Red Raiders 41-16 to give Texas a shot at sharing or winning the Big 12 title outright.
The other three big games in the conference take place on Saturday when Kansas State looks for its seventh win against Kansas, the Baylor Bears take on TCU and Iowa State travels to West Virginia.
Kansas State vs Kansas
Last Saturday Kansas State had it winning streak of four games broken by Oklahoma. Kansas lost on a cold night against Iowa State last week.
K-State however should be the team that rebounds from a loss better. The Wildcats are favored by 16.5 points over their archrivals. If K-State can stop the strong rushing game of Kansas, they should dominate the game.
Kansas will not disclose their starting quarterback until game time. Montell Cozart and Jake Heaps will both play. Cozart played well against West Virginia two week ago, but was shut down by Iowa State. However, K-State is weak against the run, which is Cozart’s specialty.
Pick: Kansas State 35-20Baylor vs TCU
The No. 9 Baylor Bears are coming off a heartbreaking loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys. To forget that and move on, the Bears will take their frustrations out on the Horned Frogs.
The game should be lopsided in the favor of Baylor. TCU does have a stronger than average secondary and could give Bryce Petty a problem or two, but with the powerful running game the Bears possess, they should win big.
Baylor’s defense was hit hard by the Cowboys, but the Horned Frogs do not have an offense with the talent of Oklahoma State.
Pick: Baylor 42-14
Iowa State vs West Virginia
Both teams end their regular season on Saturday and neither wants to loss any more games. Both teams will not play in a bowl game and both are playing for the seniors on their respective teams.
The Mountaineers have lost many players to injury, but at least Clint Trickett their quarterback has been cleared to play, after he suffered a head injury. However, two of their defensive backs are doubtful.
The game will not be exciting by any means and interesting to just the fans of each school.
Pick: West Virginia 20-17
Question marks remain about what team will win the Big 12 title, but that will be determined by over the next two weekends.
However, with the Texas win on Thanksgiving, it might not be enough for them to win the conference title, but it may help save head coach Mack Brown’s job.
