Broncos GM John Elway Expected To Make Big Moves In NFL Free Agency
After Peyton Manning had headed into retirement in the same way John Elway did by winning a second Super Bowl title, the Denver Broncos were unable to replace the future Hall of Famer and repeat as champions. Not only was the quarterback play shaky, but the Broncos didn’t even make the playoffs and also unexpectedly lost head coach Gary Kubiak to retirement.
With the Broncos missing the playoffs and needing some upgrades on both sides of the football, Denver could be as active as any team in the league during NFL free agency. Cornerback Chris Harris recently said he anxious to see what Elway puts together, via NFL.com:
Speaking to reporters this week, Broncos cornerback Chris Harris was answering a question about his transition into the offseason when he added this about Elway: “After the season hopefully everything starts to get rolling. Once free agency comes you know Elway is going to make some splashes. I’m excited to see who he brings as a part of the team.”
The major splash that Elway could make during the NFL offseason is acquiring or signing veteran quarterback Tony Romo. The Dallas Cowboys will more than likely part ways with Romo in one way or another with the Broncos being an ideal location.
Romo, who many believe will be traded by the Cowboys at some point during the offseason, could also be made a free agent. Elway and company may be more inclined to sign Romo rather than trade for him.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens with the Broncos eager to upgrade the roster in this time of transition for the storied franchise.
