Cardinals Sign Chris Johnson In Wake Of David Johnson Injury

The Arizona Cardinals were dealt a devastating blow this week with star running back David Johnson going down with a dislocated wrist. The injury was thought to be one that he may return from without surgery, but after a second opinion, Johnson will undergo surgery and miss as much as three months as a result.

With Johnson now having been placed on the injured reserve list, the Cardinals have addressed the need at running back by bringing back veteran Chris Johnson, according to John Weinfuss of ESPN.

The Arizona Cardinals turned to a familiar face to fill the void left by injured running back David Johnson.

Veteran Chris Johnson re-signed with the Cardinals on Tuesday, less than two weeks after the team released him Sept. 1.

Johnson spent the last two seasons with the Cardinals and seemed to find a home in Arizona with some decent production out of the backfield playing behind David. The team elected not to re-sign him in the NFL offseason, but has now been given a second chance and could potentially see a lot of time coming out of the backfield.

Kerwynn Williams was thought to be the feature back sharing time with Andre Ellington, but that may no longer be the case. Johnson knows the system well and had his moments which may prompt the coaching staff to give him a considerable amount of carries in Week 2 against the lowly Indianapolis Colts.

Although the immediate future looks bleak, the veteran addition to the team may help in the short term as the Cardinals adjust to life without their perennial Pro Bowler.
