Chicago Bulls Want To Re-Sign Pau Gasol Rather Than Trade Him
After signing with the Chicago Bulls in the summer of 2014, veteran forward Pau Gasol was thought to potentially the missing piece to the championship puzzle in the Windy City. Gasol declined more money and a no-trade clause from the Los Angeles Lakers to make the move to Chicago with hopes of winning another championship before he retires.
Although Gasol hasn’t missed a step in Chicago and improved his numbers across the board, the two-time NBA champion still can’t avoid the trade chatter. Midway through his second season in Chicago, the Bulls has reportedly explored trade scenarios for Gasol.
Apparently, the Bulls didn’t find a deal worth taking in exchange for the Spaniard. Along with no tempting trade offers, Chicago lost Joakim Noah to a season-ending shoulder injury making Gasol that much more valuable to the team moving forward.
According to Marc Stein of ESPN, Chicago will now be looking to re-sign Gasol rather than trade him before the deadline on Feb. 18:
As for Pau Gasol … latest signals out of Chicago are that the Bulls want to RE-SIGN the free agent-to-be. As opposed to trading him

In 42 games this season, Gasol is averaging 16.6 points, 10.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.1 blocks per game. Gasol’s points and rebounds per game are down slightly from last season, but the veteran forward has still been the most consistent player on the team outside of Jimmy Butler.
Gasol will have a decision to make this summer with a $7.7 million player option on his current contract with the team. If the Bulls are intent on re-signing him, the forward may have another long-term deal on the table this summer.
