Colts Super Bowl odds take a tumble with Luck’s stunning retirement

Before the Andrew Luck retirement news shattered the sports world Saturday, the Indianapolis Colts were considered a top contender to win the Super Bowl.

The oddsmakers at SportsBetting released updated information that shows just how much Luck meant to the Colts’ championship aspirations:

  • Super Bowl odds fell from 16-1 to 50-1
  • Conference title odds fell from 8-1 to 25-1
  • AFC South title odds fell from 1-1 to 9-2
  • Odds to make playoffs at all fell from 1-2 to 4-1
  • Colts’ season over/under win total fell from 9.5 to 6.5

With Luck out of the picture, Indianapolis will now be led on offense by veteran backup Jacoby Brissett. He has started 17 games in the past, including 15 games during Luck’s lost 2017 campaign.

Though Brissett only won four of his starts that season, the Colts were much worse off upfront on the offensive line. Since then, Indy has shored up that unit and is much better equipped to protect the quarterback.

The former third-round pick out of North Carolina State has shown the ability to play at a high level. However, the bar of expectations has been raised to another level this year.

That said, the team’s 50-1 Super Bowl odds makes sense. Brissett leading the Colts to a Super Bowl victory would be the only thing more shocking than Luck’s retirement.
