Could Colin Kaepernick Finally Return to the NFL Next Season?

After nearly four years, maligned ex San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and the NFL could be ready to reunite.

Colin Kaepernick has been unable to find a team since he instigated the take a knee movement in 2016. His protest against racial injustice and police brutality started a movement which ultimately faded away.

However, the murder of George Floyd by a white police officer in Minneapolis resulted in a resurgence for the Black Lives Matter movement. The following protests and riots have led to global recognition and support for racial justice in the United States.

As a result, there is a groundswell of support building for the return of Colin Kaepernick to the NFL. President Trump, in a rather late effort to position himself on the right side of this issue, said that he would like to see Kaepernick get another shot.

If he deserves it, he should,” Trump said.

“If he has the playing ability. He started off great, and then he didn’t end up very great in terms of a player. He was terrific in his rookie year. I think he was very good in his second year. And then something happened. So his playing wasn’t up to snuff.

“The answer is absolutely I would. As far as kneeling, I would love to see him get another shot. But obviously he has to be able to play well. If he can’t play well, I think it would be very unfair.”

Chargers coach Anthony Lynn doesn’t believe that Kaepernick’s game deteriorated like the President describes. In fact, Lynn thinks he would be a good fit for their programme in L.A.

“I haven’t spoken with Colin, not sure where he’s at as far in his career, what he wants to do, but Colin definitely fits the style of quarterback for the system that we’re going to be running,” Lynn told ESPN on Wednesday.

“I’m very confident and happy with the three quarterbacks that I have but you can never have too many people waiting on the runway.”
