Denver Nuggets Consider Waiving Ty Lawson After 2nd DUI Arrest In 6 Months
Things continue to get worse and worse for veteran point guard Ty Lawson. As if things weren’t bad enough for Lawson and his relationship with the Denver Nuggets, the 27-year-old was arrested for DUI for the second time in six months on July 14, according to TMZ Sports:
TMZ Sports has learned Lawson was pulled over by CHP for speeding on the 101 Freeway early this morning … and officers determined he showed signs of intoxication … so they gave him a field sobriety test.
Didn’t go so good for Lawson. He was arrested around 2:30 AM.
Not only was Lawson arrested for the second time for DUI in the last six months, which is ridiculous to say the least for a paid promoter of Lyft, but he’s been arrested a total of four times for the same offense.
Needless to say, the Nuggets may have finally found their reasoning to part ways with the troubled point guard. There’s been a lot of rumors floating around about Lawson being dangled as trade bait by Denver over the last few months, but no deal came to fruition, even after the team drafted promising young floor general Emmanuel Mudiay in June.
Apparently, the team may bypass trading the veteran guard altogether and instead simply waive him, via Mitch Lawrence of NBC New York:
Denver Nuggets considering waiving Ty Lawson after latest DUI arrest, per #NBA sources. Lawson has two years, $25.6 mil left on contract.

It seems highly likely at this point in time Lawson has played his last game in a Nuggets uniform. Lawson has shown no interest in continuing his career in Denver and this most recent arrest basically gives the Nuggets a green light to finally part ways with the troubled guard.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Nuggets brass handle this situation, but in all likelihood, Lawson will get waived at some point between now and the start of next season.
