Derrick Rose, The World’s Most Delicate Flower, Injured…Again

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose walks into a bar…and is out for as long as he wants while recovering from his injuries, the full extent of which won’t be known until he undergoes yet another MRI.

It’s funny because it’s real. Unless you’re a Bulls fan, then it’s probably not as funny. Or unless you’re Derrick Rose, truly the world’s most delicate flower.

On Thursday night Rose took a break from publicly airing his concerns about future soreness to play an inter-injury game against the Toronto Raptors. The good news is that the Bulls won 100-93! The bad news is that Rose was injured late in the fourth quarter and did not return after slowly making his way back to the team bench.

Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said after the game that Rose said that he had just “tweaked” his hamstring and believed he was fine. But since “tweaked” is just a fun way to say “I’m in pain, but lacking the medical training required to properly identify the problems,” an MRI is scheduled for Friday morning.

After missing most of the last two seasons recovering from two different knee injuries, Rose has already missed four games this season because of sprained ankles. Yes, ankles. Plural.

Rose will probably “tweak” his other hamstring climbing onto the MRI bed on Friday.
