Here’s some interesting news! Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and the Colts’ Andrew Luck are still waiting on contract extensions from their teams, but on Monday the Dolphins locked up Ryan Tannehill through the 2020 season.

Naturally ESPN “insider” Adam Schefter was quick to dish on Miami’s generous four-year extension. The $96 million deal includes $45 million in guaranteed money and is added on to the final two years remaining on Tannehill’s rookie contract.

It’s not to say that Tannehill is completely unworthy of an extension, his stats improved across the year in 2014. But in three years he has yet to lead the Dolphins to a postseason berth, having gone 7-9 his rookie year, and 8-8 the last two seasons.

Miami has been mediocre for so long and have jumped the gun on bloated contracts too often in recent years to keep this up. Tannehill has two years left on his deal, they could have easily waited until after this season to lock him up long-term.

Patience is a virtue.
