Giants’ Damontre Moore Reportedly Cut Over Beats Dispute
In the NFL, some players get cut for beating women, some get cut for beating fellow players, and some, in the case of former New York Giant Damontre Moore, get cut for fighting over Beats By Dre headphones.
The fight that led to Moore’s release, ironically, came as a result of one of his teammates getting into the festive mood of the season. Superstar wideout Odell Beckham Jr. reportedly purchased a large amount of the popular brand of headphones – long since considered a prestigious toy of choice among professional athletes – to distribute to the rest of his team.
Moore took exception to the fact that fellow D-lineman Cullen Jenkins took several pairs for himself while Moore missed out. The ensuing fight was said to be a culmination of issues that had been brewing between the 34-year-old Jenkins and the 23-year-old Moore. When given the option, it seems the Giants took the side of the veteran.
Understandably, the fight was not the only reason for deciding to part ways with the disruptive Moore. ESPN’s NFL insider Dan Graziano claimed that Moore routinely displayed a poor attitude on the practice field in the presence of players, coaches and even team owner John Mara.
Moore also feuded openly with some team officials attempting to improve his behaviour. His maturity failed to improve over the course of three seasons, leading to the third-round pick being out of work, at least for now.
Moore recorded 8.5 sacks since joining the team in 2013, including 3 this year in what was looking like his most productive season to date. However, jaded Giants fans might remember him best for a moronic roughing-the-passer penalty conceded against Philadelphia on Monday Night Football earlier this year.
Leading 7-0 and having forced Philly into its third three-and-out on as many possessions, the Eagles’ drive continued courtesy of the penalty – a late hit for which Moore was fined $20,000 – and ended in the endzone.
The momentum having swung completely around, the Eagles never looked back, trouncing the Giants in a loss indicative of the kind of rocks-or-diamonds play that has characterised New York’s season. Should the Giants fail to win the hotly contested dirt pile that is the NFC East, many may remember Moore’s on-field stupidity as the turning point of another wasted year.
