Indianapolis Colts activate quarterback Andrew Luck; trade for Jacoby Brissett
The Indianapolis Colts could be headed toward a lost season with the status of their superstar quarterback in doubt. Andrew Luck continues to recover from shoulder surgery he underwent back in January, and all signs point to him not playing in Week 1.
According to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, the Colts did receive some good news a week ahead of the 2017 NFL regular season.
The Colts have called Luck up off the physically unable to perform list and onto the active roster, according to multiple reports. That means the Colts think Luck will be able to play before Week Seven.
At this point, the Colts will likely be starting Scott Tolzien under center for Week 1 and quite possibly for the first few weeks of the regular season. Indianapolis opens their season against the Los Angeles Rams with Tolzien potentially having to lead the team.
In order to address Luck’s uncertain status, the Colts traded for quarterback Jacoby Brissett on Saturday, according to ESPN.
The New England Patriots traded quarterback Jacoby Brissett to the Indianapolis Colts for wide receiver Phillip Dorsett on Saturday.
Brissett had an impressive stint with the New England Patriots as a backup quarterback. He was never able to leap Jimmy Garoppolo but did enough to attract the attention of the Colts and other teams around the NFL.
If Tolzien isn’t cutting it, Indianapolis could quickly turn to Brissett to shoulder the load under center until Luck returns.
