Jadeveon Clowney not expected to get new deal by July 15 deadline
Jadeveon Clowney hasn’t participated in any of the Houston Texans offseason program as he and the team have attempted to work out a long-term deal.
Status quo for Texans and unsigned franchise player Jadeveon Clowney, per sources. No deal happening prior to July 15 NFL deadline, will play this season under $15.9 million franchise tender. Not expected to miss any games, but likely to miss at least a major portion of camp

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, that deal won’t be coming before the July 15th deadline, and Clowney will play the 2019 season under the $15.9 million franchise tag.
Additionally, Wilson reports Clowney will “likely†miss “at least a major portion of camp†but will not hold out during the regular season.

None of this comes as a huge surprise. Jadeveon Clowney was hoping to land a mega-deal like the ones inked this offseason by Demarcus Lawrence and Frank Clark.
Instead, he’ll have to content himself with a one-year fully-guaranteed contract that isn’t as much per year than those guys are getting on their long-term deals.
The fact the Texans don’t have a General Manager at the moment can’t be helping negotiations, but Clowney’s history of knee problems might give a team pause as well.
