Jeff Saturday Makes Pitch For Permanent Colts Role

He’s either admirable or foolish or both, but interim coach Jeff Saturday believes he’s the man to turn Indianapolis around.

Jeff Saturday was the shock replacement for fired Colts coach Frank Reich. He was trusted by owner Jim Irsay despite not having coached at a more professional level than high school.

Jeff Saturday won his first game but lost the next seven to end the season. He believes he shouldn’t be compared with the likes of Carolina’s Steve Wilks because he had no rapport with the coaching staff when he started.

“If I get this job, there’s going to be significant change,” Saturday said,”… It would look different.

“I commend the heck out of what he did,” Saturday said Monday.

“I also know (Ben) McAdoo who is their offensive coordinator and (James) Campen who is their offensive line coach. They worked together in Green Bay for a number of years. I would tend to believe a guy coming in after nine weeks, walking into a room with a short offensive staff and a guy who is walking in who has been together for however long they’ve been together before and after should have a different level of success.

“I do think as you look at things, you can go ‘This is how this went.’ And I respect the heck out of Steve and what he’s done, and I love those two guys in particular. I’ve worked with them in Green Bay (as a player). But not every situation is exactly the same when you get behind closed doors.”

“I have a very clear vision of how I can turn this football team around,” he said. “I’m not one that wavers. I’m pretty steadfast.”
